A few creative writing courses in college led me to a writing life. Writing poetry takes all the skills of a good copywriter and condenses them. You have to draw in your reader with a visual, keep their attention, and make them wanting more. This creative outlet overflows into my commercial writing. You'll find that many of the techniques used in poetry  are used commercially.

Poetry doesn't pay the bills, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy writing it. And occasionally somebody takes notice.

“Matthew Potter is truly a poet's poet, capable of evoking in his readers sudden sorrow or the need to pause and consider Big Picture stuff in a new way.” ~ Robin Stratton of Big Table Publishing and Boston Literary Magazine
